Insurance Broker Advantage

Whatever type of insurance you’re looking for, arranging your cover through an independent insurance broker – rather than a do-it-yourself price comparison site – is your best bet when it comes to finding the right level of cover at the right price.

On the face of it, price comparison sites offer great deals, especially when cost is the main consideration. But dig a bit deeper, and there are lots of reasons why using a broker can prove a very wise choice. The main benefits include:

  • you’ll get truly independent advice from the professionals
  • they’ll work hard on your behalf and shop around to get you the best deal
  • experienced staff with specialist knowledge of their chosen insurance sector
  • a broker knows the insurance market and recognises when you’re getting value for money and can negotiate on your behalf
  • you get personal advice and support, and have an insurance expert “in your corner” with your best interests in mind
  • you can ask questions, air concerns and get advice and recommendations – but still have the final say
  • you learn about the pros and cons of each option in a way you can understand
  • unlike an agent, an insurance broker deals with many companies, not just one, so they can find you the best value
  • insurance brokers are extremely well qualified, and must meet very high professional standards
  • in-house claims support is available if the worst happens

The personal touch

There’s nothing quite like dealing with someone who takes the time to get to know you and your circumstances. Independent insurance brokers provide that personal touch. At the same time, customers still benefit from competitive rates and some of the best deals that the broker can negotiate because of their established relationships with the UK’s leading insurers.

Are your employees safe?

Accidents will happen – are you covered?

Injury and ill‐health in the workplace is more commonplace than anyone would like, with more than 150,000* non‐fatal injuries occurring in the workplace each year and an estimated two million people suffering from ill health which is caused, or made worse by work.

A good health and safety regime in the office is not only a legal requirement, but can help minimise the chances of an injury or illness occurring. Appropriate insurance is also a must to protect yourself, your employees and visitors.

There are some simple steps you can take to minimise the chances of an incident happening in the workplace. The HSE recommends carrying out a 5 step risk assessment of the office as follows:

1. Identify the hazards
2. Decide who might be harmed and how
3. Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions Record your findings and implement them 4. Review your assessment and update if necessary

It’s also important to have Employers’ Liability and Personal Accident insurance in place to cover you, should an employee injure themselves at work.

Call Commercial Insurance Services Ltd and speak to an experienced broker to find a policy that meets your needs, at a price that’s right.

Is your Home safe? Here are some tips on how it can be

Home security tips and advice

Unfortunately we are all aware that break-ins do happen, therefore we want to make sure that all of our customers have the best information to prepare them against the worst happening…

We have put together the following list of ‘Home Security Tips’:

•   Bins and ladders should be stored away from your home.

These could be used by an intruder to access a 1st floor window.

•   Never leave any valuables where they can be seen by an intruder.

Leaving valuables in direct view of a window is like advertising the contents of your home

•   Don’t share any holiday plans on Social Media..

Posting details of when you will be away from your property will let any of your followers know that your home is potentially vulnerable.

•   Keep out any unwanted guests.

It is always a good idea to have a spy hole or door chain fitted as additional security.

•   Leave a light on when you are not at home or purchase a light with a timer.

This will be more beneficial during the darker evenings and if you are spending a night or week away from your home!

You can leave a radio or TV on as an  alternative to leaving the lights on. Security products such as a light with a timer can be purchased online.

•   Going away for a long period of time? Ask the Royal Mail to hold your post.

The Royal Mail operates a ‘Keepsafe™’ service where they will hold your post for up to 2 months.

We recommend asking the Royal Mail to hold your parcels and letters as this avoids a pile up of post which could alert an intruder as they will be able to see your home is unoccupied.

•   Join your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Alternatively if there isn’t a local Neighbourhood Watch scheme near you and you are going on holiday, you can inform a trusted neighbour that you will be away, so they can keep an eye on your home.

•   Store all house and car keys away from your front door!

You can have a key hook fitted inside your home or have a key safe fitted on the outside of your home. A letterbox cage or guard can be fitted additionally, this will help to deter a method of entry used by intruders called ‘Key Fishing’.

•   Fit lights with sensors on the front of your property and in the garden.

These will help to deter a burglar as they are often more confident when it is dark.

•   Mark all of your valuables with a UV pen.

If the worse did happen and your home was burgled it may help to make recovery of your valuables easier.

•   Check all of your locks including garages, gates or sheds.

Upgrade or replace any faulty locks. Make sure that any objects that can be used by an intruder to gain entry to your home are safely locked away in a garage or shed.

•   When leaving the property always remember to lock any doors and windows.

The majority of intruders will use an unlocked door or window to gain entry to a house.

CiSL goes to Manchester for BIBA 2015

Annually Commercial Insurance Services Ltd attends the largest Insurance event of the year run by BIBA.

BIBA was founded in 1977 to represent the independent insurance broker. In 1988, following the introduction of the Financial Services Act, the organisation extended its membership to include Independent Financial Advisers, and became the British Insurance and Investment Brokers’ Association – BIIBA.

In 1994, the UK’s Independent Financial Advisers were coming under increasing pressure, which led to calls for the creation of an association dedicated to representing their interests. As a result, BIIBA was the driving force behind the establishment of its sister organisation, the IFA Association.

In September 1999, the organisation removed the word ‘investment’ from its title, and reverted to the name BIBA. Today, it is the largest broker organisation in the UK, and has established itself as the industry’s most powerful and authoritative voice.

Upon Arrival

Once checked into the hotel, our trip began with a networking event with one of our leading insurance companies, NIG.

NIG specialise entirely in commercial insurance – and nothing else. So their highly experienced underwriting teams are completely focused on identifying and understanding the continually challenging risks faced by small and medium enterprises throughout the UK.

But what really sets them apart is their partnership approach. NIG work exclusively through a network of over 2,200 insurance brokers, collaborating closely with these partners to deliver the cover, services and support you’d expect from a national organisation at a local level.

CiSL has a strong relationship with all our insurance companies ensuring we are using only the best underwriters you with exceptional cover at an affordable premium.

The insurance industry is constantly changing and it is key to us as your broker to stay up to date with it all. NIG are one of the most innovative companies in terms of providing bespoke commercial insurance with an added touch. For example with each fleet policy that is taken with NIG you are provided with a FREE Fleet Management system that then offers you the client further discount depending on your fleets driving. Visit for more details on this.

BIBA 2015 – Day 1

A lot was presented to the audience, one of the main and most exciting topics was the BIBA Manifesto. This is basically a Bible to all broker’s and insurance companies a like. It enables us to know exactly what is going on with in the industry and how BIBA are representing us as an industry. Some really exciting stuff was discussed regarding risk.

biba manifesto

Below is a short clip of just a few highlights from the days events. See if you can spot us. We made the final cut.

In conclusion, in the past two days we have managed to build on existing relationships, made new ones and found out exactly what direction the insurance industry is heading. In all BIBA is a fantastic opportunity for all independent brokers to see what markets are out there for our clients so that we can then deliver only the highest standards of cover at the right premiums. The main advantage of using CISL as a broker is that we promise to get all claims paid out as fast and efficiently as possible. As a potential or existing client reading this we would like the opportunity to promise we will always provide you with the right insurance at the right premium.

Worried about flooding? Here’s our guide to staying afloat

Are your most valuable belongings correctly insured?

Are you correctly insured?
Are you correctly insured?

Flooding and adverse weather have affected much of the UK in recent years, submerging homes and devastating towns and villages along the way.

Although weather warnings give a heads-up when heavy rainfall is expected, they cannot prepare you for the aftermath.

If you are hit by flooding and your property is damaged, flood insurance will compensate damage costs and ensure that you aren’t left out of pocket. Flood insurance is available in all shapes and sizes, so don’t let the cheapest deal lure you in; speak to a professional insurance broker for expert opinion and guidance.

Another thing you can do if you’re at risk of flooding – as recommended by the Environment Agency – is create a ‘response plan’. By taking precautionary measures and following simple best practices you’ll not only save money and time, you’ll protect your home’s contents too.

When taking out flood insurance the key thing to remember is risk; which specific areas of your property are at risk, how location could be a factor, and how quickly you could recover if the worst did happen.

You can take every precaution to limit the damage caused by floodwater, but it’s important to never assume that you’re completely flood-proof. Almost 8,000 residential properties were affected by floods in 2012 and the Environment Agency issued a record 1,000 flood warnings throughout November and December. The AA responded to more than 8,000 calls from motorists, six times higher than in 2011, and 16 times more in the south-west. The cost of the clean-up is in billions.

If your residential property is close to estuaries, riverbanks or sewers, it will be extremely vulnerable to high groundwater levels and you may therefore need certain terms including in your policy.

For more information on protecting your home from flooding, and to find out more about the types of cover we provide, contact us today on 01737 373222 and an experienced advisor will assist you with all you insurance needs. For information on other products we provide please visit
